We want you to enjoy your earrings from The Earring Shop for years to come. It's important though to look after and clean silver and gemstone jewellery to ensure that it looks its best for as long as possible. This can be done by following a few simple steps.

Looking After Your Earrings:

Silver jewellery will gradually darken if left exposed to air. Storing your earrings in your Earring Shop bag, airtight container or even a plastic bag will help to keep tarnishing of your earrings to a minimum. Polish your earrings with a jewellery cloth, or lens cloth, as often as possible. Try and keep your earrings away from contact with perfume, hair spray and other cosmetics. This is particulary important for pearl earrings.

Cleaning Your Earrings:

The safest and easiest way to clean most jewellery is with a detergent bath. Swish together warm water and any mild liquid detergent. Clean your earrings gently using a soft brush while in the soap suds, then rinse under warm running water. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using brushes, which can cause scratches. Never boil silver, and avoid using ammonia, toothpaste, powder cleansers or scouring pads. Gemstones rarely need cleaning unless they become dirty from hairspray or other products. They can be cleaned using a soft cloth with mild soap and water, but be sure to rinse well. Never clean gemstones or pearls with chemicals, abrasives or jewellery cleaners, as these will cause damage to them.
